Chicks at Townley House

In 2024, we had the pleasure of hatching chicks and raising them for their first two weeks of life. The children got to watch the eggs in the incubator and learn about the life cycle of a chicken. We were lucky enough to watch the eggs slowly hatch and see the chicks coming out. The children then learned the responsibility of looking after an animal and attending to its needs with adult supervision. The children as groups named the chicks and loved coming into nursery to greet the chicks and see how fast they grew. During this time, our learning in nursery revolved around learning about chicks, reading stories about farms and chicks and doing some lovely crafts.
